Situated in the western part of the Giant Mountains, Jilemnice lies in the shallow valley of the river Jilemka. This town is the cradle of Bohemian cross-country skiing, since in 1894 the first ski club was established. Even today, the schools of this town have specialized sport classes. Some of the most significant historical buildings are the baroque St. Laurentius church, the classicistic town hall and the impressive castle. The castle accommodates the Giant Mountains Museum with the exhibition on cross-country skiing as well as geographical collections and pictures.
