Redesign of the railway station area in Weickersdorf
With the obligatory ribbon cutting, the District Administrator Mr. Michael Harig, the Mayor Mr. Andreas Erler and the Managing Director of the Transport Federation Upper-Lusatia – Lower-Silesia (ZVON) Mr. Hans-Jürgen Pfeiffer officially presented the newly designed site at the railway station Weickersdorf.
The extensive construction work included the demolition of the old station concourse on the platform towards Bischofswerda, new construction of an access of the platform towards Bischofswerda, complete redesign of the station forecourt including the access road on the platform towards Dresden (turning area for buses, 14 parking spaces), the attachment of both platforms on a length of 90 meters (including an orientation system for blind people) as well as the establishment of a combined weather shelter / bike storage on each platform, each with 10 slots. The constructional project cost 360,000 € and 75% were financed by subsidies from the Free State of Saxony. The remaining funds were raised by the ZVON (20%) and the city of Bischofswerda (5%) which acted as the building contractor.
