TRANS-BORDERS – Better Planning to make rural areas more accessible

Leadpartner: Saxon State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport

Projektzeitraum: June 2017 to May 2020

Website: » http://www.interreg-central.eu/Content.Node/TRANS-BORDERS.html

Cross-border transport links in central Europe are still underdeveloped and generate barriers for public transport in border regions. Improving accessibility from peripheral border regions to the Trans-European Transport network (TEN-T Core Network) poses a challenge in central Europe.

TRANS-BORDERS aim is to examine how the accessibility of peripheral border regions can be improved to the Trans-European Transport network via the nearest network nodes as well as to national networks by a coordinated cross-border, intermodal and environmentally friendly mobility. Achieving economic growth and a greater social cohesion in border regions will be a side benefit with an easier accessibility to the TEN-T core network.

Nine partners from five Central European countries (Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia and Germany) work together to create and expand better public transport links, especially in rail traffic. In particular, inter-ministerial and inter-departmental cooperation must be strengthened and a smooth decision and policy making process between cross-border regions must be ensured.

The regions to be investigated are Germany (Saxony), the Czech Republic (Kraj Liberec) and Poland (Lower Silesia), as well as Austria (Carinthia) and Slovenia. In order to strengthen cooperation and ensure smooth policy making processes, TRANS-BORDERS will develop guidelines and a joint action plan regarding an establishment of encompassing steering committee for cross-border regions in peripheral regions far from the TEN-T network.
